Power Platform for Retail Operations
The Problem
Your ERP has the data. Your team can’t get to it.
Business Central holds your inventory positions, open orders, customer accounts, and financial data. But for most mid-market retailers, getting that data into a usable format (a report a buyer can act on, an alert a warehouse manager receives in real time, a form a store associate can fill out on a mobile device) requires either custom development or a lot of manual steps.
Usable Data is Hard to Get
The gap isn’t technology. It’s accessibility.
Solving the Problem
Power Platform closes that gap.
" Buffer inventory isn’t strategy. It’s compensation for bad data. Fix the data access problem and the buffer shrinks on its own."
— All Your Ducks
Four tools. One data source. Built around Business Central.
Microsoft Power Platform is a suite of four connected tools: Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and Power Pages. For retailers running Business Central, the value is in the single source of truth. There’s no middleware, no separate sync, and no duplicate data set to maintain.
Each tool addresses a different operational constraint. Together, they replace a stack of disconnected workarounds with a coherent layer that sits on top of Business Central.
Four Tools from Microsoft Power Platform for Retail
| Tool | What It Does | Retail Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| Power Apps | Build custom business apps connected to Business Central data, on any device, without code. | Store associates log inventory counts on mobile. Buyers submit purchase requests that write directly to Business Central. |
| Power Automate | Automate workflows across Business Central, Shopify, email, and other connected systems. | Trigger a reorder request when a SKU drops below par. Route purchase orders through an approval chain before posting. |
| Power BI | Turn Business Central data into live dashboards and reports your team can actually read. | CFO sees inventory turns, cashflow, and margin by category in one view. Updated automatically. |
| Power Pages | Create secure web forms and portals connected to Business Central data. | Vendor portal for invoice submission. B2B customer portal showing order status and account balance. |
All Your Business Ducks in
The most useful Power Platform implementations we’ve seen aren’t the most complex. They’re the ones that replace a manual process that was costing a team two hours a day. Here’s what that looks like in retail.
Replace paper-based cycle counts with a Power App that store associates use on a mobile device. Counts post directly to Business Central. Discrepancy reports generate automatically.
Route PO requests through a structured approval chain in Power Automate before they post to Business Central. Finance sets the thresholds. The workflow enforces them.
Trigger automated notifications when SKU quantities drop below defined reorder points in Business Central. Buyers get an email or Teams message. No one monitors a report manually.
Power BI connected to Business Central gives operations leadership a live view of inventory turns, open POs, fulfillment rates, and margin by channel. Updated automatically.
Power Pages lets you create a secure external-facing portal where vendors can submit invoices or where wholesale customers can check order status and account balances—all connected to Business Central.
Why You Need Power Platform for Retail
Live financial visibility without a reporting team
Automate the manual processes that slow down your team
Extend Business Central without custom development
How All Your Ducks Approaches Power Platform
Power Platform implementations fail for two reasons: the use case is too broad, or the data in Business Central isn’t clean enough to build on. We start with both before writing a single flow.

Power Platform is only as useful as the data it reads from Business Central. We check data quality, field mappings, and integration completeness before building anything.
We build the app, flow, or dashboard in a development environment and test it against your actual Business Central data before deployment.
We deploy to production and train the relevant team members. For operational tools, adoption depends on the handoff—we don’t consider a project complete until your team is using it.
As your Business Central environment evolves—new integrations, updated data structures, additional locations—we keep your Power Platform solutions aligned. See our Support Packages.
Why ERP-first matters here. Most Power Platform implementations we’ve seen that didn’t deliver were built on top of fragmented data. A Power BI dashboard connected to inconsistent Business Central data doesn’t give you better visibility. It gives you faster access to bad numbers. We fix the data layer first.
Why Work with All Your Ducks: What Retailers Ask Us before Getting Started
Do we need a separate Power Platform license, or is it included with Business Central?
Some Power Platform capabilities are included with Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 Business Central licenses, but full access to Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI typically requires additional licensing. We assess your current Microsoft agreement and advise on the most cost-effective path before any build work begins.
We’re already using Business Central. How quickly can we actually deploy something?
For targeted use cases—a reorder alert, an inventory count app, a Power BI dashboard—three to six weeks is realistic once the use case is defined and Business Central data is confirmed clean. Broader automation projects take longer. We’ll give you an honest timeline after the initial review.
Can Power Platform connect to our Shopify store as well as Business Central?
Yes. Power Platform has native connectors for Shopify and other ecommerce platforms. The most valuable flows we build for retailers connect Business Central and Shopify together. For example, catching order sync failures or triggering inventory updates across both systems automatically.
What’s the difference between Power BI and the built-in Business Central reports?
Business Central’s built-in reports are useful for transactional views: ledger entries, aging, inventory valuations. Power BI is better for operational analysis that spans multiple data sets, requires visualization, or needs to be shared with people who don’t have Business Central access. The two complement each other.
Does All Your Ducks provide ongoing support for Power Platform solutions?
Yes. Power Platform solutions need to be maintained as your Business Central environment changes. We offer support packages that cover both Business Central and connected Power Platform tools. See our Support Packages page for options.
